This intimate, yet informal safari camp is nestled on a small island close to the south-western edge of Chief's Island, in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Botswana inland “sea”. Dotted in the forest Delta Camp’s lethaka (reed) chalets are designed to take advantage of the many indigenous trees of their island forest. Each chalet fits unobtrusively into its setting, blending into the surrounding bush while enjoying views over the flood-plains. Hammocks complete the picture of simple luxury in the wilderness. Delta Camp is on the banks of the Boro, one of the primary watercourses of the Okavango, and all chalets overlook the water.
Enjoy your meals in the elegant Dining Room overlooking the sweep of the Delta, or take a beautifully prepared picnic onto one of the many nearby islands for a secluded and intimate experience. The excellent meals ensure that guests are well prepared for their walks; tea and coffee are available at all times, and the open bar is on hand to refresh.
The Okavango Delta is a shifting web of crystal-clear channels, lagoons, sweeping floodplains and palm-studded islands. Game of all sorts is around - lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, hippopotamus, crocodile, giraffe, and a number of species of antelope including the rare lechwe, and sitatunga. There are also otter, honey-badger, and some of the smaller wild cats amongst the many mammal species you may see. Additionally, over 450 species of birds bring the Okavango to life and bird-song heralds each dawn. the Okavango has indeed earned its reputation as one of the world's premier wilderness areas.
Camp excursions - walking Safaris and mokoro (the traditional dug-out canoe) - are conducted in the renowned Moremi Game Reserve, with your own professional Guide, a man of the Delta, completely at one with his environment. The focus is on peace and tranquillity (stalking game on foot provides all the excitement one could wish for) and guests are actively encouraged to visit a local village, home to our guides, and to interact, should they wish to, with the people there.
Comments:
"Well, what can we say, it was one of the most wonderful trips of our life!!! It seemed very expensive as we were paying for it, but when we arrived and realized what it took to operate the camps in such remote areas, etc. it made all the expense seem worthwhile. All the arrangements worked seemlessly - we were met by friendly people starting with Rob in Joburg right up to our departure. We particularily LOVED Delta Camp - had no idea that we would really be walking among the animals without firearms, but our extraordinary guide "X" was great and the two young people who ran the camp, Jos and Robb, were just the best. The other two camps were also impressive - no complaints, but Delta did spoil us. It was such a caring and intimate setting. All in all, a most memorable trip. We consider it one of those life altering experiences - one will never think of Africa quite the same way again. Please extend my sincere thanks to Mandy for all her patient advice and help. All the best, Caroline
PS Is there any way you can tell the owner of Delta Camp how very highly we thought of Robb and Jos - I would like to see them get credit for their unusual caring hospitality".
